Battery passport

Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 makes the digital battery passport mandatory from 18 February 2027 for LMT batteries, industrial batteries above 2 kWh, and electric vehicle batteries.

Who is in scope?

  • Light means of transport (LMT) batteries — e-bikes, e-scooters
  • Industrial batteries with nominal capacity above 2 kWh
  • Electric vehicle (EV) batteries

Data to be declared on the passport

  • Battery chemistry and nominal capacity
  • Recycled content shares for cobalt, lead, lithium and nickel
  • Carbon footprint declaration
  • State of health (SoH) and expected lifetime
  • Supply chain due diligence statement (Art. 48-53)
  • End-of-life and recycling instructions
  • Manufacturing date and facility
